Anal Fistula is a permanent abnormal bad passageway between two organs in the body or between an organ and the exterior of the body. Anal fistula one from the anus to the skin, sometimes communicating with the rectum. Anal Fistula is an abnormal passage (communication) between the interior of the anal canal or rectum and the skin surface around the anus.
Rarely, the fistula may communicate from anus (rectum) to Vagina (Recto-Vaginal Fistula), Urinary Bladder (Recto-Vesicle Fistula), Urethra (Recto-Urethral Fistula) or other pelvic structures, including the bowel.
Causes of Fistula:
An anal fistula is most commonly caused by an anal abscess. It can also be caused by conditions that affect the intestines (part of your digestive system). Most fistulas begin as anorectal abscesses. When the abscess opens spontaneously into the anal canal (or has been opened surgically), a fistula may occur. Approximately, 8-50% of perianal abscess patients end up having an anal fistula.

Old method of Treatment of anal fistula is to remove total fistula trac and leave it open. This process is very painful to the patient and requires dressing for about three to four weeks and patient has to be at home.
